The Uganda National TAI Coalition has so far conducted two independent assessments, with the first conducted in 2001/2002, and the second in 2004/2005. The assessment findings have enabled the coalition to design a strategy on how to accelerate implementation of access rights at the national level. The coalition shared both findings widely and lobbied government to accelerate implementation of access rights to which government signed and submitted commitments to fill the gaps as identified during the assessments. The Uganda TAI National coalition’s work has mainly been centered around 3 key areas; • Working on the enactment and implementation of the Freedom of Information Act . The Act came into force on Thursday 22, April 2006 and the coalition has undertaken follow up actions to ensure its implementation • Judicial training programme for the judiciary on environmental law enforcement and compliance and access rights. • Working with selected communities to raise their awareness on environmental substantive and procedural rights as a means of strengthening the demand side as regards access to information, participation and justice.
