Eye on Earth is a movement that convenes a diverse range of stakeholders to strengthen the knowledge infrastructure and access to information for environment and sustainable development in accordance with the principles enshrined in the Eye on Earth Summit Declaration. In December 2011, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) hosted, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and facilitated by the Abu Dhabi Global Environmental Data Initiative (AGEDI), the inaugural Eye on Earth Summit.

It convened global leaders, innovators and decision-makers to strengthen existing efforts and inspire new solutions to the critical issue of access to environmental and societal data and information by all those who need it. With the shared knowledge and understanding of the Eye on Earth Community, a suite of outcomes were committed to in 2011; the Eye on Earth Summit Declaration and eight Special Initiatives. One of these Special Initiatives is the Access for All, dedicated to promoting Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration and making data and information access relevant in the digital age and aligned to Principle 10.

The Eye on Access for All Special Initiative is meeting in Washington DC hosted by WRI in order to review projects under way, to expand the outreach of the initiative and to prepare strategies for the next Eye on Earth Summit in 2014. In order to introduce P10 and solicit partnerships and collaborative projects with new partners, the global experts assembled under the Eye on Access for All platform plan to open the final element of the DC meeting to a select number of invited guests. Relevant governmental and non-governmental stakeholders in the US will be briefed about latest developments with respect to the application of Principle 10 and the progress of A4A projects. At the end of the session, participants will have a full understanding about latest global P10 developments, the EoE Access for All Special Initiative and the opportunities it offers US-based stakeholders for participation and collaboration.
